More than 500 rice farmers in the Dormaa West District are set to benefit from the Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA) Dobidi Initiative, a programme aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
The intervention, being implemented in partnership with Anfani Royal Ltd, will provide farmers with critical rice production inputs and post-harvest services to enhance yields and increase profitability.
The announcement was made during an engagement with farmers and community leaders at Nkwantaso by the Director of PIAA, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, alongside the Member of Parliament for Dormaa West, Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Steven Azorba.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Otokunor said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to support smallholder farmers while encouraging more young people and women to venture into agriculture.
“As part of our agro-interventions to support smallholder farmers and to incentivize young people and women to venture into agriculture, we joined Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, MP for Dormaa West, and the DCE for the area, Hon. Steven Azorba, to interact with farmers and community leaders of Nkwantaso,” he stated.

Dr. Otokunor explained that the Dobidi Initiative seeks to remove some of the major constraints facing farmers, including limited access to credit, production financing, technical assistance and markets.
“PIAA and its partners, Anfani Royal Ltd., are providing support to over 500 rice farmers in the district under our Dobidi Initiative, aimed at providing rice production inputs and post-harvest services to the farmers. This move is targeted at eliminating the barriers associated with access to credit, production financing, technical assistance and markets for smallholder farmers in the district,” he added.
The initiative is expected to improve rice production in the district, strengthen food security and create sustainable economic opportunities for farming communities. It also aligns with the government’s broader agenda of transforming agriculture into a viable and profitable enterprise for youth and women across the country.
