The Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA) directorate, at the Office of the President, has opened an online portal to register farmers and interested individuals for the distribution of three million coconut seedlings.
The initiative, funded by the Ghana Exim Bank and implemented in partnership with the Coconut Federation of Ghana, aims to expand Ghana’s coconut industry, unlock its economic potential, and enhance the country’s position as a leading exporter.
Anchored in President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for agriculture, the initiative will not only boost production but also create sustainable jobs, generate foreign exchange, and improve livelihoods across rural communities. Interested farmers can now register through the official portal at www.piaa.gov.gh or call +233 54 343 1305

According to Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, Director of PIAA, the initiative is about building a resilient coconut sector, one that creates jobs, drives export growth, and uplifts communities.
Dr. Otokunor further assured farmers that the platform is designed to be simple and user-friendly.
“The process is straightforward, requiring only basic information such as the farmer’s name, contact details, farm name, location, and the number of acres under cultivation. Our priority is to ensure that every genuine farmer can easily take advantage of this transformational initiative,” he said.
Highlighting the sector’s potential, Dr. Otokunor noted that Ghana’s coconut industry already contributes over $350 million annually in export earnings from markets in Europe, Asia, and North America. With the rollout of the seedlings, projections indicate the country could exceed $700 million in exports by 2030, while creating more than 100,000 direct and indirect jobs across production, processing, and distribution.
Globally, the coconut industry is valued at over $60 billion annually. When we increase the national production capacity by more than 40% in the next five years, Ghana will be positioning itself as one of Africa’s leading producers and a major player in the international market.
The seedlings distribution initiative also aligns with the government’s Feed Ghana Programme and the broader objective of using agriculture as a driver of industrialization, youth employment, and rural economic development.
