The Director of the Presidential Initiative in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA), Peter Bnoamah Otokunor, has visited the Badu Grain Storage site in the Tain District of the Bono Region as part of his ongoing nationwide working tour.

The facility, which currently hosts a grain warehouse operated by the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), was constructed in the 1980s to support smallholder farmers with services such as grain cleaning, drying, and storage. It continues to serve farmers within the district and surrounding areas, but now requires maintenance to enhance its efficiency.

Limited grain processing and storage infrastructure remains a major challenge confronting both smallholder and large-scale farmers across Ghana. The lack of adequate facilities contributes to post-harvest losses and weakens farmers’ access to reliable markets.
The visit forms part of broader efforts to assess existing agricultural infrastructure and identify areas for improvement.

It also aligns with the vision of the President, John Dramani Mahama, to strengthen the country’s food buffer systems. The plan includes introducing modern, digitally controlled storage facilities nationwide to organize the grain supply chain better and expand market opportunities for farmers.

The initiative is expected to improve storage efficiency, reduce losses, and contribute to Ghana’s overall food security while supporting job creation in the agribusiness sector.
