The two-day Agunkefest 2025 came to a colourful close on Sunday, celebrating culture, trade, and the growing importance of the coconut value chain across West Africa. A major highlight of the festival was the recognition of Ghana’s Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, who received the prestigious Nigeria Coconut Brand Ambassador Award. The award was presented by the President of the Coconut Federation of Nigeria, Chief Adewale Oshundahunsi, who praised Dr. Otokunor’s remarkable contribution to advancing the coconut industry across the sub-region.
“Dr. Otokunor has consistently demonstrated leadership, innovation, and a deep commitment to strengthening the coconut sector, not only in Ghana but across Africa. His work continues to inspire regional collaboration,” Chief Oshundahunsi said during the presentation.
In addition to the honour, Dr. Otokunor also received a special plaque on behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, in recognition of the president’s support for agricultural transformation and continental agribusiness partnerships.

Receiving the plaque, Dr. Otokunor expressed gratitude and emphasized the need for stronger cross-country cooperation within the coconut value chain.
He intimated that “the award is a testament to the shared vision to transform coconut production in Africa into a major agro-economic industry. I’m deeply humbled, and I accept this honour on behalf of all stakeholders working tirelessly to make this industry thrive,”.
Agunkefest 2025, held at Badagry in the City of Lagos, Nigeria, attracted a high-profile gathering of dignitaries, including politicians, traditional leaders, policymakers, international investors, and major players in the coconut industry, with representatives from ECOWAS, and other business leaders from Ghana, Togo, and Côte d’Ivoire.
The festival featured exhibitions, cultural performances, a display of innovative coconut products, and strategic dialogues aimed at strengthening regional integration within the coconut value chain.
Organizers described the event as one of the most successful editions yet, setting the tone for deeper collaboration between Ghana and Nigeria in the agribusiness and trade sectors.
