Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA), says, the DOBIDI Initiative is focused on removing all barriers to agricultural production.
DOBIDI is a government-led private-sector-driven outgrower scheme aimed at supporting smallholder farmers with critical farming inputs to boost production and improve livelihoods.
“The goal of the DOBIDI Initiative is simple: give farmers what they need to farm”, Dr Otokunor said during a community engagement at Walewale in the North East Region.
“We are making sure that inputs reach the right hands at the right time to improve yields, ensure food security, and create jobs”, he said.
The PIAA Director who had begun engaging farmers across selected regions as part of the implementation of the DOBIDI programme assured farmers that the government was committed to supporting them beyond input supply.
He noted that government would help with access to markets, extension services, and long-term policy support.
The interactive session also provided a platform for farmers to express their challenges and expectations. They highlighted scarcity of inputs and their high costs as major constraints to their farming activities.
